Ray, the son of EARL and SARAH C. SMITH MADDEN, had two sisters, ELSIE and IRMA, and a brother, ROBERT. Their Mother died when Irma, the youngest, was a tiny baby. Their Father, who was my Dad's brother and the son of ROBERT and ALICE ELIZABETH McMANIS MADDEN, took Irma to a friend's home and asked them to care for her --and never went back for her.

Robert went to live with an 'old maid' school teacher, Viva Monahan, and Ray and Elsie lived with my Grandmother Ophelia until our Great-Aunt DORA McMANIS HARRISON and her husband HARRY took them to raise. Ray lived in Union County most of his live but died in the West. He was married several times, and his children are dead also. Elsie married Raymond Riley and lived to be 93 years old. She had one son, Richard, who is also deceased.
