Alf was a rural school teacher in Union County before his marriage, and Florabelle taught in rural schools in Adams County. She was a native of rural Lenox. They farmed northeast of Kent and had three daughters: Florence, Evelyn and Dorothy. They were active members of Platte Center Presbyterian Church.
